one-dimensional EXAMINATION OF THE AORTA AND AORTIC VALVE
Echocardiography Textbook
For the One-dimensional study of the Aorta and Aortic valve better to use a parasternal approach (the long axis of the heart). The M-modal cursor should cross the Aortic valve.
On the display, from top to bottom, we see the following structures:
- AWRV - Anterior wall of the right ventricle.
- RV - Right ventricular cavity.
- AWA - Anterior wall of the Aorta..
- RCC - Right coronary cusp of Aortic Valve.
- NCC - Non-coronary cusp of Aortic Valve.
- PWA - Posterior wall of the Aorta.
- LA - Left Atrial cavity.
- PWLA - Posterior wall of the left Atrium.
In one-dimensional echocardiography, only two aortic valve cusps can be examined: the right coronary cusp and the non-coronary cusp. They diverge with the left ventricular systole, join with the diastole and create a curve that resembles a rectangle.
