Subcostal View of the Inferior Vena Cava
B-Mode
This approach makes possible to study Inferior Vena Cava and Hepatic Veins. The study of the inferior Vena cava and its collaboration with the phases of respiration is mandatory in all patients and is used for assessment Pressure in Pulmonary Artery (normally, the diameter of the inferior Vena cava decreases by 50% during inspiration).
- Switch Echocardiography Simulator to B-Mode. Initially Simulator is set to B-Mode.
- Using Slider and Buttons <<Skeleton>> Choose appropriate transparency level.
- Choose position " Subcostal IVC " from the List <<Positions>> or
Subcostal View of the Inferior Vena Cava with 3D Transducer
To obtain this position first we have to find Subcostal 4 Chamber View. After Turn the transducer (See Operations on Transducer) 90 degrees counterclockwise. Transducer Marker is oriented toward the patient’s face (12 o’clock).
Following heart structures are visualized on the screen:
- IVC-Inferior Vena Cava.
- HV-Hepatic Vein.
- RA-Right Atrium.
